Fun Facts

• The hotel is on the site of what was the 2-story Dunes Hotel which opened in 1970.
• The building that is now the Holiday Inn Express was opened in 1988 as an addition to the Dunes Hotel after one of the 2-story buildings for the Dunes was destroyed by a hurricane. The remaining 2-story building for the Dunes was destroyed by Hurricane Opal in 1995. This just left the 8-story tower.
• The Dunes tower again sustained major damage in 2004 from Hurricane Ivan. The tower underwent a major renovation and rebranding. It opened as the Holiday Inn Express in 2008.
